Started by our sister publication L-MAG, the annual Berlin Dyke* March is back for the fourth time: a demonstration for increased lesbian visibility and quality of life, taking place on the eve of Pride

Gay rights have become a mainstream topic, but more often than not, they come with a male face. For four years now, the annual Dyke* March Berlin has been calling for lesbians and their friends (the asterisk stands for inclusivity) to hit the streets for better visibility. Once again, the initiators have developed a new route. This time, it starts at Nollendorfplatz, and for good reason: by starting in the middle of the gayborhood, it's an easy way to welcome the men to show their solidarity, whether by waving a banner or simply marching along. “Given the great vibes of the past years, the Dyke* March can hardly get any better,” says Manuela Kay, chief editor of L-MAG. “With such quality, the only thing I can hope for is more quantity – even more lesbians in the streets, more gay men and our other friends and supporters, above all at Nollendorfplatz where it kicks off – and of course we want more motorcycles leading the way!” Last year, there were around 30 dykes on bikes who led the march with their noisy engines, and 40 are expected for this edition. If you want to bring your steel horse, you can get in touch via dykesonbikes@l-mag.de, but registration is not required. Aside from the good vibes, one thing that will remain unchanged is the get-together at Südblock when the demo ends at Kottbusser Tor. The full route is on the next page, marked in blue.
