Director Claudia Isabel Martin pays tribute to Francisca Gonzaga, aka Chiquinha (1847-1935) in her “Femmage in 2/4 time”. As a pianist and composer, she significantly influenced the music of the Brazilian “Belle Èpoque”: to this day her carnival song “Ó abre alas” can be heard in the streets of Rio in the largest carnival parade in the world. Why Chiquinha?, in unpredictable miniatures of tragedy, comedy and irony, follows the unconventional life path of this artist of two centuries. Queer Berlin pianist Julia Kadel in part of the band.
