Shara Nova composed the music for the queer laborgras performance “A Masque for the Multiverse” shown at Radialsystem in December, and she was part of the ensemble in the musical theatre version of Sufjan Stevens’ “IIlinoise” album, which premiered in 2023. Unsurprising: When the gay US singer/songwriter celebrated his breakthrough in Germany in 2005 with the aforementioned “Illinoise” album, Shara Nova was playing in Stevens’ band and opened the shows with her own project My Brightest Diamond. The classically trained singer has since gained a solid fan base in Europe with her art pop sound and is now presenting her most political and musically ambitious work to date with “Fight The Real Terror”, which doesn’t need to hide from queer icons like Björk and Kate Bush.
