Gustav Mahler's Weltschmerzmusik has held a special place in gay cultural history since the film version of "Death in Venice". At the Musikfest Berlin, Susanna Mälkki conducts the Staatskapelle and presents Mahler's "Lied von der Erde" with its seemingly endless farewell song; soloists are Wiebke Lehmkuhl and Eric Cutler.
